Bimal Patel Chief Legal Officer
Bimal Patel serves as Chief Legal Officer of PayPal, overseeing the
company’s global
legal and corporate secretary function across 200 markets.
Bimal brings deep experience in the private and public sectors. He joined PayPal in 2021 from
the U.S.
Department of the Treasury. Following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate, he served as
Assistant Secretary for
Financial Institutions and was responsible for overseeing several key portfolios, including the
Office of
Financial Institutions Policy, the Financial Stability Oversight Council, the Office of
Cybersecurity and
Critical Infrastructure Protection, the Federal Insurance Office, and the Office of Economic and
Community
Development. Before his Treasury service, Bimal was a Partner and the Head of the Financial
Advisory and
Regulation Practice at O’Melveny & Myers LLP and a Senior Advisor at the Federal Deposit
Insurance
Corporation (FDIC).
Bimal received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center, a Masters degree in Public Policy from
Harvard
Kennedy School, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from Stanford
University,
where he has also been an adjunct associate professor, teaching an undergraduate course on
financial
regulation.
