We are committed to harnessing the power of our technology and scale to help nonprofits raise mission-critical funds and provide new ways for people to connect and give to the causes they care about — anytime, anywhere, and in any amount. In 2020, we helped more than 50 million individuals contribute around $17 billion to more than one million nonprofits, schools, campaigns and crowd funders, including $12 billion to charities.

We create innovative giving solutions

New generations are driving changes in charitable giving and we are developing innovative tools to meet these evolving needs. In 2019, we introduced Give at Checkout in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Australia, allowing users to contribute directly to causes they care about when shopping online. In a year after launch, more than 5 million users have used Give at Checkout to contribute over 11.3 million donations to nonprofits in 2020. We also partner closely with companies like Facebook, Airbnb, Humble Bundle, GoFundMe, LiveNation, Google, Nextdoor and Spotify to power charitable giving across the ecosystem.

We help raise critical funds to support global disaster relief efforts

As a global company, we are committed to supporting relief efforts worldwide. During times of crisis, we look to support our impacted customers with information, fee waivers and financial support. We also donate PayPal funds and leverage our fundraising platform to mobilize consumer-driven support for responding charities. In 2019, we raised funds to support disaster relief efforts related to Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, the Notre-Dame Cathedral fire in Paris, Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas and U.S., the Amazon rainforest fires in Brazil, the California wildfires and the Australian bushfires, among other relief efforts.

Our global community is paying it forward

Our fundraising platform enables businesses to integrate giving into their sites and offers consumers opportunities to support the organizations they choose. In 2020, we supported over 4.4 million individuals in 13 countries, up 30% from 2019, to contribute close to $400 million to personal fundraising campaigns. After seeing the growth in peer-to-peer fundraising following the COVID-19 outbreak, we launched the Generosity Network, enabling customers in the U.S. to create customized campaigns to raise money for individuals and organizations in need. Introduced in September 2020, PayPal users have raised funds for disaster relief, funeral and medical expenses, community efforts and other causes, with nearly 40,000 campaigns raising over $2 million by the end of the year.
